Holyrood election campaigning suspended after Royal death SCOTLAND’S political parties have suspended their campaigns for the Holyrood election after the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. The SNP, Labour, Tories, Liberal Democrats and Greens all ceased national and local activity following Prince Philip s death at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle today. The list-only Alba party and All for Unity also suspended their campaigns. Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross said: This is not the time for political campaigning. It is a time for national mourning. “Out of respect for The Prince Philip, Her Majesty The Queen and all of the Royal Family, we have suspended our campaign until Monday.”

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle on Friday.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday extended his condolences to the people and government of Britain upon the demise of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away at the age of 99. Britain has lost a wise elder who was imbued with a unique spirit of public service, PM Khan wrote in a Twitter message.
Oxford City Councillor Tom Hayes also took to Twitter to share his condolences. Saddened by news that Prince Philip has died. A 73 year marriage is a blessing. His devotion to the Queen has been as strong as his role in the life of the country, including the founding of the Duke of Edinburgh Award that has changed young lives. Councillor Les Sibley, Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “On behalf of Oxfordshire County Council, it is with great sadness that today we hear of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. This sadness, I am sure, is shared by many of you who will want to remember and recognise the service of Prince Philip.
“A much-loved member of our monarchy who will be sorely missed.
“I am saddened to hear of the death of The Duke of Edinburgh and would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the whole Royal Family, on behalf of the residents of St Neots.
“As a mark of respect our union flags will be flown at half-mast at our council offices and town greens.”
St Neots Parish Church have also paid tribute by tolling a bell 99 times just after 1pm in remembrance of Philip.
In a Facebook post the church said: “In memory of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (and, inter alia, sometime Chancellor of the University of Cambridge), whose death was announced this morning, our tenor bell was tolled 99 times just after 1pm.
