Assam Assembly Election Results: BJP Led Alliance Crosses Majority Mark In Official EC Trends

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance has crossed the majority mark of 64 as the counting for the 126 seats in the Assam Assembly election is ongoing, as per the Election Commission data.
The BJP has an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP).
According to the latest official EC trends, while the BJP is leading on 50 seats, its allies AGP and UPPL are ahead on 11 and six seats respectively, which means that the alliance has crossed the majority mark.
CM Sarbananda Sonowal, who retained his seat for the second time, polled 71,436 votes.
GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal of the BJP won from Majuli assembly seat on Sunday defeating Congress candidate Rajib Lochan Pegu by 43,192 votes.
Sonowal, who retained his seat for the second time, polled 71,436 votes (67.53 per cent), while the Congress candidate has to his credit 28,244 votes (26.7 per cent), according to the Election Commission of India website.
Besides Sonowal, there were five contestants in the fray from the seat.
The chief minister had earlier in the day said, as per trends, the BJP-led alliance will retain power in the state.

GUWAHATI: Lawrence Islary of UPPL emerged as nothing less than a giant killer after he defeated 6-times MLA from Kokrajhar East, Assam Minister for Social Welfare and BPF heavyweight, Pramila Rani Brahma. Islary polled 39,120 votes while the minister got 25,344 votes. These are the votes polled as per the Election Commission of India s data at 3PM on Sunday, the counting day.

The counting for Assam Assembly Elections 2021 started at 8 AM on Sunday (May 2). It is expected that the final results of the Assam Assembly polls would be out by the evening. The counting is going on at 53 centres on 1,920 counting tables. The counting of the postal ballots was done first and as per the initial trends the BJP is leading and is on course to retain power. All vote counting centres are equipped with CCTV cameras to ensure transparency. A total of 946 candidates are in the fray for the election to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly elections that were held on March 27, April 1 and April 6 respectively.
