India reports 23,950 new Covid-19 cases, 333 deaths ANI | Updated: Dec 23, 2020 23:51 IST New Delhi [India], December 23 (ANI): With 23,950 new cases in the last 24 hours, India s Covid-19 tally reached 1,00,99,066, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Wednesday. The total figure includes 2,89,240 active cases and 96,63,382 recoveries. As many as 333 lives were claimed by the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative death toll to 1,46,444. Following the national trend, 26 states and Union Territories currently have less than 10,000 active cases. The daily recoveries have been exceeding the daily new cases consistently, ensuring a total net reduction of the active caseload. A net decline of 3,278 cases has been recorded in the total active cases in the last 24 hours.

Institutional quarantine for UK returnees testing Covid positive: Maha

Amid concerns over the new coronavirus strain, all passengers from the UK who test positive for COVID-19 will be kept under institutional quarantine, a Maharashtra government official said on Wednesday. This is as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Centre, he said. The other passengers, who test negative, will be home quarantined along with daily updates by district surveillance officers, the official said. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday issued SOPs for epidemiological surveillance and response for the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The SOPs are for all passengers who returned to India from the UK between November 25 and December 23.
