12 children in Maharashtra s Yavatmal district were hospitalised after they were accidentally given hand sanitiser instead of polio drops on Sunday.

MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, as many as 12 infants from the Yavatmal region in Maharashtra where given drops of hand sanitiser in place of polio drops.
According to reports, the incident took place at the Ghatanji Primary Health Centre in Yavatmal district during the pulse polio drive.
Meanwhile, all the affected kids are between the age groups of one and five and are currently undergoing treatment.
Notably, on January 31, the children in the gram panchayat area were administered polio dose as part of the national polio immunisation drive in which 12 kids were given drops of hand sanitiser in place of polio drops.

Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 1 (ANI): The polio vaccination drive began in Jammu and Kashmir s Doda district on Sunday as part of the National Polio Immunisation Programme in which children in the age group of 0-5 years will be administered polio drops following COVID-19 protocols. Today (Sunday) we started the Pulse Polio vaccination programme and vaccination on booth level took place here. There are 71,000 beneficiaries in our district in which children between 0-5 years will get vaccines. Vaccination is being done in 523 booths and a door-to-door campaign will take place for the next two days, said Dr Sagar D Doifode, District Development Commissioner, Doda.

NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday launched the pulse polio programme for 2021 by administering polio drops to children below five years of age at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
In a statement, the Health ministry said President Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind administered polio drops to children on the eve of the Polio National Immunization Day, which is observed on January 31 and is also popularly known as Polio Ravivar.

In a shocking lapse, at least 12 kids were administered hand sanitizer instead of the oral polio vaccine drops at a Primary Health Centre in Ghatanji s Kapsi-Kopari village in the district, officials said here on Monday. Taking cognisance of the incident, the district health authorities late on Monday suspended three nurses after a preliminary investigation.
The incident took place on Sunday when over 2,000 small children aged 1-5 years had gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccination programme under the national immunization drive, launched in the morning.
