CAL, EVA Air to suspend flights to London in January

Any resumption of flights will depend on how the pandemic unfolds, the two airlines said. Taiwan s two largest airlines, CAL and EVA were reduced to operating one round-trip passenger flight between the two destinations per week after the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced last week that they were halving their weekly services.

EVA Air, one of Taiwan s main international carriers, has since March fired four pilots and four flight attendants for breaking quarantine rules in Taiwan . The company said in a statement Tuesday that it recently launched an investigation into whether any flight crew members have broken COVID-19 control rules and identified two pilots suspected of violating protocols, including one whose extramarital affairs were exposed by a tabloid weekly on Monday.

CNA file photo Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) Taiwan reported two new imported cases of COVID-19 infections, one each from the Philippines and the United States on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 795, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC). Both presented negative coronavirus reports issued three days before they boarded their flights and neither has shown any symptoms of COVID-19 so far, the center said in a press release. The individual arriving from the United States, the center said, is an Indian national who has long resided in the U.S. and came to Taiwan with his family for work.
