The latest case involves a person in Nipissing District between 60 and 79 years of age who was exposed to COVID-19 through close contact with a case.
The person is currently isolating at home.
One case from Parry Sound District also has resolved, leaving the health unit district’s active case count unchanged from Wednesday at seven.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has confirmed its first case of a COVID-19 variant of concern (VOC).

Following a positive result of COVID-19, with exposure associated to recent international travel, further testing for variants was requested. The individual is currently self-isolating.
Preliminary results of the testing showed the presence of a VOC. However, further testing is required to identify the strain of this variant.
“The preliminary results of COVID-19 variant of concern confirms the need for everyone to remain cautious and assume everyone outside your home has COVID-19,” says Dr. Jim Chirico, medical officer of health.

The new case – the health unit district’s 195th – involves a person aged 60 to 79 in the Parry Sound District, whose exposure is attributed to close contact with a case.
The case brings to seven the number of active cases in the region. Five are in Nipissing and two in Parry Sound District.
Of the 195 cases confirmed by the health unit since the pandemic began last March, 116 have been in Nipissing District and 79, including one death, have been in Parry Sound District.

Public Health Ontario has reported 745 new cases of COVID-19 today.
For the third day in a row, the total new cases reported today is impacted by Toronto Public Health s data reporting, which is being migrated to the province s system. Toronto Public Health s case count is negative following the identification of duplicate cases as well as some data corrections to some fields (e.g., long-term care home residents and health care workers), resulting in an underestimation of today s cases, states the Feb. 2 report by Public Health Ontario. In addition, case counts for other public health units may have been affected by system outages.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit confirmed Tuesday a member of the École Secondaire Catholique Franco-Cité school community tested positive for COVID-19.
The health unit said it is working with Conseil Scolaire Catholique Franco-Nord to ensure all close contacts are contacted directly.
As the individual was at Franco-Cité during their infectious period, the health unit has dismissed the Grade 9 cohort to self-isolate and be tested.
The current situation does not meet the criteria to declare an outbreak, the health unit stated. The individual is currently self-isolating.
