While Jason J. McGuire in his Viewpoint ( New York must reopen the Capitol to the public, May 5) makes important points about the need for the public to have access to our state Capitol building and offices where Assembly members and Senators work, he is wrong to rush its reopening. From personal experience, I truly understand the need for public interaction with its government officials.

18-year-old woman killed in Albany

ALBANY Police said they are investigating a killing in which an 18-year-old woman was shot Monday afternoon.
Police said they responded to Essex Street, just west of Rawson Street, at about 2:50 p.m. for a shooting. The woman was found lying in the street, and was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are not releasing the victim s name until they said family can be notified.
