Cristian Flinta, 50, was out delivering parcels in his Vauxhall Vivaro van in December 2019 when he pulled onto the pavement. Prosecutor Keith Ballinger told Swindon Magistrates’ Court a woman was walking down Norfolk Road in Harnham, near Salisbury, with her daughter. “She said at the time it was getting dark and the street lights were on. As she’s walking along the pavement a white van has mounted the pavement behind her. It has continued and she’s been struck by the nearside wing mirror,” Mr Ballinger said.

Drink driver caught after police follow oil trail from crash

Mitchell Morgan, 25, was almost four times over the drink drive limit when he was tracked down by officers, Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard. Prosecutor Keith Ballinger told JPs Morgan was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra van that struck railings and a lamppost on Wharf Road, Wroughton, at around 11pm on Sunday, September 6. As he drove away, the Astra driver was overheard say he was “going to get in so much trouble”.

Suspended sentence for Swindon man who shoved police sergeant

A SWINDON man shoved a police sergeant and threatened to kill him, a court heard. Joshua Richards pushed the officer, who had gone to the man’s partner’s home in Toothill following reports of a covid regulations breach, while serving on a suspended sentence for attacking another officer. Extending the earlier suspended sentence order to two years and imposing a new 12 week suspended sentence, District Judge Joanna Dickens tore into the 26-year-old. She said: “This is an incredibly serious offence. You may say it’s only words; well, it’s not only words. “You have to imagine what it’s like to be a police officer. BMW driver caught speeding on Great Western Way

A BMW driver hit 54mph in a 30 zone, a court heard. Kieran McGarvie’s BMW 235 was clocked at 54mph on the Great Western Way opposite Screwfix, near Bruce Street Bridges on April 29, 2020. Wiltshire Police prosecutor Mike Smith told Swindon Magistrates’ Court the road was subject to a 30mph speed limit – although there was a 50mph limit further back. McGarvie, 22, of Tollard Close, Nythe, pleaded guilty to speeding. However, he questioned aspects of the police’s case, raising concerns that he had not been shown footage from the video camera worn by the officer who stopped him. He told magistrates it wasn’t clear from his speeding ticket whether the officer had written down 54mph or 34mph and whether his speed was recorded at a distance of 200 metres or yards.
