Supreme Court takes suo motu cognisance of alleged killing of Dhanbad judge, seeks report from Jharkhand DGP

SC said that this court wants to address the safety & security of judicial officers in the country “Jharkhand High Court will keep monitoring probe into alleged mowing down of Dhanbad judge,” the SC bench said in its order. The top court also sought a detailed report from The Dhanbad judge was on his morning jog when he was hit by an auto-rickshaw and left to die. He was reportedly dealing with many high-profile criminal cases in Jharkhand. It is suspected that he was allegedly murdered. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up under the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) to probe the death of the Dhanbad judge.

Colonial mindset which pervades treatment of district judiciary must change

By Sanjeev Sirohi It must be stated right at the outset that the ghastly manner in which an upright, dedicated, determined and disciplined Judge named Uttam Anand who was an Additional District Judge (ADJ) posted in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand was mowed down by an autorickshaw has sent shivers down the spine. The ghastly incident happened on morning of July 28 near the Magistrate colony of Dhanbad that was close to the Judge’s residence. He was taken to hospitals by locals where he died. It goes without saying that the whole nation has been caught by surprise and utter disbelief! It was initially believed to be an accident. But the video footage that was accessed and emerged later has made it crystal clear that the three wheeler which rammed him from behind while he was jogging on a deserted stretch of road in Dhanbad was done deliberately, dastardly and determinedly with clear aim to kill him! If this is not a direct assault on judiciary then what else is?

SC takes Suo Motu Cognizance of alleged killing of Dhanbad ADJ ANI | Updated: Jul 30, 2021 14:30 IST New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Chief Justice of India Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana while taking Suo Motu Cognizance of the alleged killing of Uttam Anand, Additional District Judge of Dhanbad in Jharkhand, on Friday said that the Supreme Court wants to address the safety and security of the judicial officers in the country. A bench of the apex court, headed by the CJI NV Ramana, today commenting on the ADJ s killing issue, said that it has come across several instances of the alleged attack on many judicial officers and lawyers inside and outside the court.
