A 2020 message from Park City Councilor Tim Henney to another member of the City Council included a statement that provides further insight into the thinking of Park City’s elected officials amid what by then had turned into a fast-building controversy with supporters and detractors of the Black Lives Matter movement confronting City Hall officials.

As the Winter Olympic flame burns in Beijing on Feb. 12, Park City on that day will bask in the warm glow of a past Games. City Hall officials have indicated an event marking the 20th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympics is planned.

Our view: As Parkites labor over their ballots, they can be assured that they’ll be represented well at City Hall over the next four years no matter who is elected. But three of the candidates have set themselves apart.

The two leading figures of an activist group called Future Park City prepared an open-records request to City Hall requesting communications between staffers and others regarding the controversial social justice murals put on Main Street in 2020.
