According to customs statistics, China's imports of high-carbon ferrochrome were 311,700 mt in July 2022, an increase of 181,600 mt or 139% from the previous month and up 128,000 mt or 69% on the year. From January to July 2022, imports of high-carbon ferrochrome totalled 1.3057 million mt, down 427,100 mt or 24.65%.

Some traders reported that they could merely deliver the long-term orders of blister copper, and the spot transactions were even scarce.

China imported 2,000 mt of refined zinc in July, down 17.09% on the month and 96.23% on the year, according to the General Administration of Customs. The imports totalled 51,000 mt in the first seven months of 2022, down 83.11% YoY. Total exports of refined zinc stood at 1,900 mt in July, with a net import volume of 1,000 mt.

According to SMM research, the downstream and terminal consumption of stainless steel was still weak. Although the output of ferrochrome declined, the reduction in production lagged behind the contraction in demand, resulting in an oversupply.

The sluggish supply and demand of aluminium in Europe failed meet the local terminal demand. Therefore, the demand for imported aluminium semis and aluminium products might increase, boosting the export of relevant products in China and other countries.
