LONG ISLAND, NY Those who are looking forward to getting outdoors and seeing family and friends after being cooped up all winter may be a little disappointed. Weather forecasts show that much of this Memorial Day weekend is going to be chilly, and may be rainy most of the time.
According to the National Weather Service, the highs for Friday through Monday are going to be in the 60s, with Saturday s high predicted to reach only 61 degrees.
On top of the cool weather, there s a lot of rain in the forecast for the long weekend. Rain is practically guaranteed for Friday night into Saturday, and will likely continue for most of the day on Saturday. There s also a chance of rain on Sunday. Luckily, the forecast shows things clearing up for Monday.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY In an effort to help Nassau County continue its recovery from the pandemic, County Executive Laura Curran proposed using government stimulus money to provide direct cash payments to hundreds of thousands of Nassau homeowners.
The program, which Curran called the Nassau County Homeowners Assistance Program would give direct cash payments of $375 to roughly 300,000 Nassau County homeowners. The county would spend $100 million of the $200 million it is getting this year from the federal American Rescue Plan to finance the program.

SYOSSET, NY The Syosset School District said it is investigating multiple bias incidents at South Woods Middle School that occurred between students.
According to Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rogers, the district has been investigating the incidents for the last five days. Rogers said the district didn t release information about the incidents earlier because it didn t want to compromise the testimony of students who witnessed the incidents. At this point, the investigation has progressed to a stage where we can share that there were multiple incidents where different students verbally expressed different types of bias and at least one of those incidents became physical, Rogers said in a statement.
