no country reporting legitimate verified, if you will, radar hits of a plane. just simply no indication that it is up in asia in any of those 11 countries and u.s. officials feel pretty confident as each day goes by, if there had been any information about it being up there, they would have heard it by now. the issue is satellite coverage in the indian ocean. commercial satellites have been moved that way. u.s. satellites, the classified satellites regularly don t cover that area, but they are going back through everything they have. wolf? barbara starr at the pentagon, thank you. let s bring in our law enforcement analyst, the former fbi assistant director, tom fuentes along with mark weiss. tom, you think now that they ve narrowed the search in the southern area, does that mean you think they re getting closer to actually finding something? i don t know, wolf. this is a phrase we ve heard about ten times in the last 12 days, we ve narrowed the search area.
there is a record of it? there should be. however, that is a large area. and it would depend on our satellite coverage of that area at that time. but, let s go back to the what probably happened on this in my opinion, with everything that s been released thus far, none of it, except in one extreme case, fits a hijacking. ened and, in that case, it would be a hijacking by the crew. and none of that makes sense from everything that s been released about the crew. just that we don t think that there is anything strange in the background but we re not even through going through hard drives. yes. but, all of that has to be looked at. but i don t place much stock in that. i think it s much more likely that one of three things happened. a small device detonated in
it s a fair question, but the problem then becomes where do they put the airplane. how do they secret it away. we have such great satellite coverage over much of the subcontinent, the middle east. it would be i think just practically impossible to hide it the airplane from us. there s one point we need to make i think. the more incredulous the possibilities with due respect to yourself, but the more incredulous or more outlandish some of these things, the more damaging it becomes to finding the plane, to the credibility of what s going on. because you ve got to the sort of stay within the realms of terrorism, of hijacking, of mechanical fault. what s possible? what s likely? what s realistic? but the moment you start looking on islands for planes, and again i could be wrong by tomorrow. part of that is the human spirit. everyone wants to cling to the chard of hope even though
