The Perham team earned first place but due to a long-standing speech tradition, the hosting team does not take their trophies. Instead, the attending schools receive trophies and recognition. Pequot Lakes took the championship trophy home.
Sophomore Jaxon Bain, senior Brynn Greisen and senior Beau Johnson advanced to the final round and placed in the top eight at their first speech meet of the season on Jan. 16.
This year's Trick-or-Canning raised the largest number of donations one group has ever brought into the pantry at a single time, said John Leikness, executive director of The Bridge Community Pantry in Perham.
The Perham Interact Club is seeking donations for non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and deodorant. Cash and check donations will be accepted, as well.
