Research suggests that placing too much emphasis on passion for ones work can have negative consequences. It can prevent individuals from developing an identity outside of work and lead to employers expecting more time and effort without increased pay.

This study examines how and when passionate leaders can instigate work passion in their followers. We propose relational energy as a social interaction mediator that can facilitate the crossover of work passion from leader to followers.
