CANANDAIGUA Although approval of a report outlining policing reforms is a few weeks away, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office right now is in the midst of training to meet suggestions and recommendations for reforming the law enforcement agency.
All employees are receiving mandatory implicit bias and diversity training as a way to foster understanding among people from different backgrounds and to eliminate distrust, according to Sheriff Kevin Henderson.
That said, the public still has time to review the 144-page policing reform report and offer comments before it’s adopted next month, in advance of an April 1 deadline imposed by the state. Henderson said he and his staff want the community to have the opportunity to read the collaborative plan and offer changes, knowing there is room for improvement.
