Now under new ownership, Arlington Heights hotel clears big hurdle toward liquor licenses   Posted4/6/2021 5:05 AM An Arlington Heights hotel under new ownership and management earned approval of new liquor licenses Monday, conditioned upon submission of a final alcohol sale plan and menu. Sonesta Select Arlington Heights, 3700 N. Wilke Road, is the former Courtyard by Marriott Arlington Heights/North. The property owner s contract with Marriott was due to expire and the owner opted not to renew, resulting in the new lease deal with Massachusetts-based Sonesta International Hotels Corp., according to the owner s attorney Harlan Powell.   Powell said it s part of a larger transaction involving the transfer of two other Marriott-branded hotels to Sonesta, including those in West Dundee and Chicago. The latter hotelier already operates an extended stay hotel in the Northwest suburbs, Sonesta ES Suites Schaumburg.

Updated 4/1/2021 6:21 AM An Arlington Heights panel Wednesday advanced scaled-back plans for the Arlington 425 downtown redevelopment that s stalled amid the pandemic and financing troubles. Plan revisions for the $150 million, three-building residential and commercial campus on a long-vacant block which would be the largest development in some two decades in town received the unanimous endorsement of the village s advisory plan commission.   The commission s review during a 3½-hour public hearing held virtually Wednesday night follows positive recommendations from the design commission Tuesday and housing commission earlier in March. The village board, which approved developer Norwood Builders larger plans in May 2019, will have final say on the plan changes at a date still to be determined.

Frito-Lay plans expansion of warehouse in Arlington Heights

Updated 3/16/2021 10:43 AM Deliveries of Lay s, Ruffles, Doritos and Cheetos will be coming to and from an expanded distribution warehouse on the south side of Arlington Heights, under plans approved by village trustees Monday. Frito-Lay plans to double its space with a 54,000-square-foot addition to an existing 138,650-square-foot building it shares at 703 W. Algonquin Road. Once completed, the larger warehouse will serve as the chipmaker s second-largest distribution site in North America.   Frito-Lay plans to bring 163 jobs to the site. Construction is set for completion in October. Cases of chips will come from manufacturing centers in Beloit, Wisconsin, and Frankfort, Indiana, and be unloaded overnight. During the day, the items will be picked and loaded onto trucks and small-route vans, which will deliver the product to grocery stores in the North and West suburbs, officials said.
