Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Illinois State Police (ISP) District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announces the ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Clark and Cumberland counties during May. ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.
The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, and most importantly:

The use of RSCs combine a strong sense of public awareness and enforcement in order to save lives of the motoring public.

Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Illinois State Police (ISP) District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announces the ISP will conduct Distracted Driving Enforcement Program patrols in Clay and Effingham Counties during May. This program allows ISP to focus on distracted driving laws to prevent traffic deaths and serious injury crashes.
Distractions can increase a driver’s risk of being in an accident:
Eating or drinking (non-alcoholic beverages) increases the risk by three times.
Sending a text message increases the risk by four times.
Reaching for an object increases the risk by eight times.
Reading a text message can take a driver’s eyes off the road for an average of five seconds.
The Ash Street underpass improves rail travel along the Chicago-to-St. Louis corridor.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Illinois chapter of the American Public Works Association has recognized the Ash Street underpass at its Project of the Year.
“We’re proud to bring home this award for the Ash Street underpass, which increases safety for motorists and pedestrians while laying the groundwork for improved passenger rail service and future freight traffic needs,” said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. “We credit the success of the project to our collaboration with the city of Springfield, the Illinois Commerce Commission, and other stakeholders. Working together, we are improving the quality of life for Springfield. ”

PRINCETON – A bridge carrying a rural road over an interstate in Bureau County is being closed due to needing repair. On Monday the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the 645 East Road bridge over I-80 north of Sheffield had failures on its deck and could not be safely repaired to reopen to traffic. Authorities say temporary repairs were made under the bridge to protect traffic from debris. Replacement of the structure may take until 2025.
