When the news broke that the film âDeltopiaâ was set to release, a flurry of responses poured out on social media platforms. Described as a coming-of-age drama that is âloosely based on real events from the actual Deltopia,â the film follows a group of high school students who travel to Santa Barbara after finishing their last day of high school to attend the unsanctioned party.

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, UC Santa Barbara and Isla Vista community members have had to adjust almost all aspects of their lives to help mitigate the spread of the virus.Â
As Isla Vista slowly re-opens, KCSB and the Daily Nexus have decided to work together to document the ways in which our community has changed over the past 18 months. Beginning August 2, we will be releasing a new series, âUnmasking Isla Vista: A COVID-19 Community Archive.âÂ
This collaborative, multimedia series is made up of six components which will be released over the span of six weeks beginning August 2: Human Struggle, University & Students, Testing & Vaccines, Local Businesses & Essential Workers, Community Reflection and Community Activism.Â

Bob Geis, the county-appointed Isla Vista Community Services District director, resigned from his position effective July 14 to join his wife in retirement.Â
During the Isla Vista Community Services Districtâs (IVCSD) July 13 meeting, the board unanimously approved a resolution honoring Geis and his work.
Geisâ involvement with the IVCSD dates back to 2017, prior to the IVCSD having a revenue source to fund their operations. Aside from his involvement with the CSD, Geis has been heavily involved in Isla Vista over his 40-year career. Geis was the former county auditor-controller and often worked with the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District.Â
