A man is recovering in police custody after a member of an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office special response team shot him, concluding a barricade incident that lasted about four hours in Milford.
Milford police are confirming news reports that the incident began shortly after 1 a.m. May 24 because a man in the 800 block of Commerce Street was screaming “Call 911.”
Because of the concerned neighbors, officers attempted a welfare check. When they knocked on the door, the man fired a weapon but would not open the door or come outside.
The county’s special response team helped develop a strategy to establish contact with the gunman and members were present when the man came outside at about 5 a.m. holding a long gun.
"We have a few unmarked vehicles and what they do is drive around they contain a spotter, and when the law enforcement spotter observes a distracted driver, they radio to a fully marked unit and they initiate a traffic stop," said Santilli.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says Vuichard was slashed in the neck. When they arrived to Chesapeake Circle to do a welfare check, they found the 59-year-old's body in the bathroom.

Man shot, crashes into Oakland History Center
A man who was shot multiple times crashed his SUV into the front gates of the Oakland History Center in Pontiac Tuesday evening.
PONTIAC, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Oakland County Sheriff s Office is searching for a suspect wanted in a shootout that ended in Pontiac at the Oakland History Center when one of the drivers crashed through the campus.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, while it ended at the history center, the scene unfolded a few blocks away.
