View Comments A former police officer whose sexual assault case was dismissed by Attorney General Dana Nessel is suing six individuals involved with his case, including a Michigan State Police trooper and three former employees of the Department of Attorney General.  Sean MacMaster, a former Detroit police officer, filed suit in Detroit federal court last week, alleging that investigators and prosecutors in his case violated his rights to due process and protection from unreasonable search and seizure.  MacMaster and his 71-year-old stepfather were arrested in 2019 and charged by the Attorney General’s Office with the sexual abuse of a relative. MacMaster maintained his wife, Johanna MacMaster, had fabricated the story during a custody battle and argued in his lawsuit that investigators acted inappropriately while investigating and prosecuting the case.

View Comments A 39-year-old Pontiac man shot twice in the shoulder Thursday is recovering and authorities are looking for the person who wounded him, the Oakland County Sheriff s Office said. Deputies were called at about 2:40 p.m. Thursday to a hospital emergency room after staff members reported they were treating a man for two gunshot wounds in his upper right shoulder. The man told them he was sitting in his vehicle, which was parked in a vacant lot in the 100 block of Maines near M-59 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he was shot. He told deputies he saw a gray vehicle approaching him, heard a bang and saw a person hanging out of one of the other car s windows.

Detroit area police leaders denounce efforts to ban qualified immunity View Comments Pontiac Law enforcement leaders from across southeast Michigan gathered Wednesday at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to speak out against proposals to do away with qualified immunity for police officers. “There is a huge misunderstanding in Congress and by the public,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, who hosted the event. “We aren’t saying that officers shouldn’t be held accountable criminally or even civil damages for not doing their job properly … but when all the proper procedures and best practices are being followed everything is being done right (qualified immunity) should apply.

Pontiac woman, 27, accused of stabbing her grandfather, 75, multiple times

View Comments A Pontiac woman is charged in the stabbing of her 75-year-old grandfather multiple times on Sunday, authorities said. Shanitra Lashay Seay, 27, has been charged with assault with intent to murder, the Oakland County Sheriff s Office said Wednesday. Seay was arraigned Tuesday on the charge in 50th District Court in Pontiac. A judge set her bond at $70,000 and scheduled a probable cause conference for May 20. If convicted, she faces up to life in prison. Officials said deputies were sent after midnight Saturday to the Phoenix Place Apartments at 47251 Woodward near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and M-59 in Pontiac for a report that a bleeding woman was carrying a knife and said someone tried to kill her.
