No fewer than 11 persons were on Friday injured in a motor crash in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state.
Forty-one persons were said to have escaped in the crash unhurt.
The accident which occurred around 2pm involved six vehicles with 52 persons on board.
It was gathered that the crash was caused by excessive speeding resulting in loss of control.
An eyewitness said the victims were rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and were rushed to various hospitals in the area.
The state FRSC Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed the incident.
He said, “A multiple and serious crash happened at Ihiala opposite St Anthony Catholic Church at about 2pm today 1st January, 2021.

No fewer than 52 people escaped death in an accident involving six vehicles on Ihiala road, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra as the New Year 2021 began on Friday.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, State Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.
Kumapayi said the accident which occurred at about 2 p.m., was caused by speeding and loss of control. x
“The multiple crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGB268ZT, a Mark Trailer with registration number GWA456YR and another Toyota Hiace bus with registration number NEN106XQ.

One person has died in a multiple accident that occurred in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
DAILY POST gathered that the accident involved four vehicles conveying a total of 25 persons, and that the accident happened when one of the vehicles involved violated a route.
An eyewitness said, while one male passenger died as a result of the accident, four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and we’re already receiving treatment in a hospital in the area.
