Man dies in Anambra Christmas Day accident

A man was confirmed dead in an accident involving a motorcycle at Awkuzu junction, on Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Anambra State, on Christmas Day.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday, said the accident ocurred at about noon.
Kumapayi said that the accident was caused by speeding and loss of control.

“Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that two male adults on a motorcycle had a lone crash as a result of speeding and loss of control.

No fewer than six people have been killed and houses razed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in a community near Chibok town in Borno State.
The attack was reported to have been carried at about 5pm on the eve of Christmas.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the village in a bid to raid Piyemi, a community 10 kilometres from Chibok town in the southern part of the state.
It was learnt that the residents were forced to flee the town into the mountainous areas as the invading terrorists looted food items and burnt houses amidst sporadic shootings.

Five passengers lost their lives and several others were injured in a road crash that occurred on Thursday along the Benin-Ekpoma-Abuja Road in Edo State.
The accident, which occurred around 11.30am near Obagie community in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state, involved an 18-passenger commercial bus, an articulated vehicle and a Toyota Sienna.
It was gathered that the bus was heading for Ekpoma and was trying to avoid a pothole when it suddenly had a head-on collision with an oncoming a truck laden with baskets of tomatoes.
A passenger, who was in the Toyota Sienna, stated that their vehicle narrowly escaped the carnage.
