Stalin on Thursday reviewed the measures being taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Coimbatore district.
On his maiden visit to Coimbatore after becoming the Chief Minister, Mr. Stalin inaugurated new beds added to the Covid Care Centre (CCC) at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex and a new 360-bedded CCC at Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT).
The CCC at the trade fair complex was functioning with 676 beds, and 820 beds were added by Mr. Stalin on Thursday. The facility also includes Siddha treatment for patients, said a release issued by the district administration.
Rotary Clubs launch project ‘Sanjeevani’

AAA Rotary Clubs based in and around Coimbatore have launched a project titled ‘Sanjeevani’ to coordinate the COVID-19 relief activities in the region.
According to a press release, the 41 Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore Region under Rotary District 3201, also known as G-41, have jointly launched this project under the leadership of District Community Chairman P.P. Lakshmanan.
This project will focus on three verticals namely ‘Vertical 1’ that focuses on vaccination drive, ‘Vertical 2’ on generation of public awareness and ‘Vertical 3’ deals with providing medical equipment to government hospitals and primary health centres. So far, the Rotary Clubs have donated oxygen concentrators and personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and Government Medical College and ESI Hospital. Nearly 60 of the 260 beds to come up at the Government Arts College, Coimbatore, are expected to have oxygen support and function as a step-down facility of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Officials, who are in the know of the works, said that the plan was to set up around 150 beds with oxygen support at the Arts College and turn it into a step-down facility. This will enable the CMCH to shift patients, whose condition has improved but still require oxygen support, to the step-down facility.
