Man arrested for duping private firm Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Coimbatore City Police on Monday arrested a 32-year-old man on charges of defrauding a private firm of ₹ 29.98 lakh. The arrested has been identified as K. Raju, a resident of Process Server Street, B.S.S. Road in Tiruppur. As per a release issued by CCB, Raju worked in a private firm near Sulur. The firm offered booking of flight tickets. As per complaint lodged by the principal manager of the firm, Raju cheated the firm of ₹ 29,98,217 by defrauding the collection amount generated from flight ticket bookings between September 1, 2019 and July 30, 2020.

Remdesivir COIMBATORE: Relatives of Covid-19 patients protested outside the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday after the Remdesivir sale counter was closed within half an hour of its opening. A Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) official said that they closed the counter as they had sold their day s target of 500 doses in 30 minutes. Relatives of patients suspected unfair practices at the counter. Sugumaran, 46, from Tirupur said, The officials are either selling the drug for a higher price or selling it to people with strong recommendations. Another protester said, We have been waiting for three and a half hours to buy the drug. Our loved ones are in a serious condition, and we needed the dose immediately.

Parking of both four-wheelers and two-wheelers by visitors has also been shifted out to the Government Arts College located diagonally opposite to the hospital’s back gate. Officials felt that vehicle parking was taking up space that could otherwise be used by patients and attendants to socially distance themselves. The Health Department said that the district had 11,731 active cases of the disease and 1,705 persons recovered from the disease on Sunday. The district’s death toll increased to 759 after the department on Sunday notified nine more deaths. As per the media bulletin, eight persons died of COVID-19 at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on May 6, 7 and 8 while one person succumbed to the disease at a private hospital on May 8. According to the department, the district had 701 non-oxygen beds, 42 oxygen beds and 12 ICU beds reserved for COVID-19 patients remaining vacant as of Sunday evening. A total of 438 beds remained vacant in COVID Care Centres.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) is one of the few hospitals in the district that allows bystanders for Covid-19 patients. This has triggered concerns from health experts, who urge hospital authorities to monitor them strictly. Many of the 700-odd patients in the hospital’s Covid-19 ward had a bystander sitting on the same bed, TOI found on Friday. Nurses in the ward said that the bystanders do not follow precautions including maintaining distance, wearing masks properly or even washing hands regularly. “We keep telling them to be careful and not to sit close to the patient, share water or food with them or mingle with other bystanders. But we are too short-staffed to be strict,” she said.
