Investigation of a police encounter that caused death of a chips seller is underway. Reuters/File A passerby was shot dead during an encounter between law enforcement personnel and suspected criminals in Karachi s Nazimabad-1 area on Friday evening, according to police. A police party conducted an action in Kabuli Bazaar near Saifullah Hotel where an exchange of fire took place between the security personnel and alleged drug peddlers. Central SSP Murtaza Tabassum told media that a potato chips seller, identified as Usman Khalid, 40, was killed during the cross-fire. He said an inquiry had been launched to ascertain as to whose firing caused the man s death.

Four die in traffic accidents Karachi May 8, 2021 Four people lost their lives while as many others were wounded in road accidents in the city on Friday. A teenage boy lost his life in a traffic tragedy in the Liaquatabad area. The casualty was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the boy was identified as 13-year-old Hussain, son of Rashid. Police said the victim was a passerby and was hit and killed by an unknown vehicle. A case has been registered while an investigation is underway. Separately, a motorcyclist died in a road accident that took place at Godown Chowrangi within the limits of the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

Photo by author The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) late Tuesday recovered a large quantity of raw material used in the making of medicines in Karachi, officials said.  The officials conducted the raid at a warehouse in the port city s Korangi Industrial Area. DRAP officials said they had confiscated the material that is used in the illegal manufacturing of medicines. This was a big operation conducted by DRAP, the officials said. Per sources, bigwigs of the pharmaceutical industry are reportedly involved in the act.

CM to present citizens budget for financial year 2021-22

Karachi May 4, 2021 Sindh’s chief minister said on Monday that he has planned to present a “citizens budget” for the financial year 2021-22, for which he has started consulting with all the stakeholders, including industrialists, traders and agriculturists. “We will incorporate all your good suggestions in the next budget, which will reflect the citizens’ participation,” said Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday at the CM House, where he chaired a consultative meeting with stakeholders from the industrial and business sectors. The chief executive told the stakeholders that the provincial government anticipates receiving Rs967.5 billion during the current financial year, and that the government will also receive Rs228 billion from its own resources.
