On the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the ping-pong diplomacy, Chinese and US veteran table tennis players recalled the memories of the visit by US table tennis players to China in 1971 and looked back to how a bouncing ball helped embark in a historical thaw among two powers that had almost zero contact during the Cold War.

More tournaments will accommodate junior players in the country amid the success of the Brunei National Junior Table Tennis Championship 2021 at the Menglait Sports Complex recently.
Tournament Director Steven Yap said the championship, organised by the Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association (BDTTA), marked the start of junior events with more to be held in the future.
Participants’ names were also put up in the national ranking table and were submitted to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to be registered and recognised by people all over the world.
Felix Low Guo Zhang won the under-16 boys’ singles category while Ling Yi Zhen won the under-16 girls’ singles title.

A commemorative event to mark the 50th anniversary of ping-pong diplomacy, a milestone in the history of the China-US relations that once mildly and smartly broke the ice for the two powerful countries, was held in Shanghai on Saturday.
April 10, 1971 was the day when the US table tennis delegation arrived in Beijing and started its visit to China on China’s invitation, prior to which the two countries had no official contact at all for more than two decades. Chinese table tennis players conducted a same visit to the US the next year.

Now 50 years ago to the day, on Saturday 10th April 1971, following the conclusion of the World Championships in Nagoya, the United States team and accompanying journalists arrived in Beijing, the first American delegation to visit the city since 1949.
