A fatal shooting in Hesperia early Thursday morning has led to the arrests of a man and a woman, both residents of the city.
Deputies responded at 4:15 a.m. to the 11200 block of Third Avenue and found 43-year-old Christian Ruiz suffering from gunshot wounds, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.
Ruiz was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Homicide detectives learned that the man’s girlfriend was sleeping in a trailer on the property “when she woke to the sound of gunshots and found Ruiz down on the floor,” authorities said.
“Information received during the investigation identified Andrew Espinoza as the suspect in the shooting,” the sheriff’s department said.
DPS Announces New Communications Hire
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Monday announced Travis Considine as the Assistant Chief of the Media and Communications Office. Considine’s hiring was approved at the December Texas Public Safety Commission meeting. He is stationed at DPS’ Austin headquarters.
“In addition to possessing a deep background in communications and public relations, Travis understands how law enforcement agencies and government leaders can work together to better serve the public from his own professional and personal experiences,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “We know that he will be a valuable asset to the department in this vital leadership position.”
A 7-year-old boy was killed and three others seriously injured in a residential structure fire in Joshua Tree on Thursday, officials said.
The fire broke out at 12:17 p.m. in a home in the 62200 block of Crestview Drive, officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department reported on Facebook on Friday.
The other victims were an 8-year-old girl and two women ages 33 and 67, officials said.
The four residents of the home were found and pulled from the fire by citizens and San Bernardino County fire personnel before the deputies arrived, officials said.
All four were taken to an area hospital where the 7-year-old was pronounced dead, officials said.
7-year-old boy dies in a house fire in Joshua Tree; 8-year-old in critical condition

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Bombs and Arson Division is investigating a fire that took the life of a seven-year-old boy Thursday afternoon in Joshua Tree.
The fire was reported on Thursday at 11:56 a.m. on the 62200 block of Crestview Drive. Fire crews reported arrived heavy smoke and fire showing from multiple sides of the single-story home when they first arrived on scene.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department reported that when crews arrived, two people were able to safely evacuate the home but two juveniles, ages 7 and 8, were still inside.
San Bernardino County to host human trafficking webinars in January

The San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department and the county s Coalition Against Sexual Exploitation will present a series of webinars this month intended to educate the public on child exploitation and human trafficking.
Held every Thursday in January, the first webinar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. The county s Human Trafficking Task force is hosting the event.
Human trafficking includes the use of “force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act,” according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
