Jefferson County man found dead after RV fire

From the Tribune staff reports BESSEMER The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is working to identify a man found dead after an RV fire on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Fire personnel found the unknown man’s body while reporting to a trailer fire at a private residence in the 600 block of Willow Bend Lane, in Bessemer. The fire happened around 7:42 a.m. and the man was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:55 a.m. The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office and the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Saxton Thomas Davis, Jr., 52, was found by fire personnel responding to the fire. The fire department got the call about the fire around 11 a.m. It was at a home in the 1400 block of Freda Drive. That’s when they found Davis, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Birmingham police responded shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of 46th Street North on a report of a person shot, said police spokesman Officer Truman Fitzgerald. Mixon was found unresponsive in a parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Fitzgerald said. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Mixon dead at 9:02 p.m. No arrests have been announced in the case. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office Thursday identified the victim as Saxton Thomas Davis Jr. He was 52. Davis died Tuesday, April 27, in the blaze at his home on Freda Drive. Midfield firefighters, assisted by Fairfield Fire and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the home shortly before 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, there was heavy fire coming the from the basement, and that quickly spread to the rest of the home.
