Authorities ID man killed in apartment fire on Birmingham’s west side Updated 7:52 AM; A 39-year-old man has been identified as the victim killed more than a week ago in an apartment fire on Birmingham’s west side. Derrick Staples was pronounced dead Monday, April 26, after fire swept through a building at the Kimbrough Homes public housing community, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The fire broke out in one of the buildings near SJ Bennett Drive and John Bryan Road. Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo said firefighters received the first call at 2:04 p.m. The fire quickly spread, and flames were shooting through the roof of the building.

Louisville woman killed at Vibes nightclub during Derby party ID ed

Kasmira Nash, 37, died of a gunshot wound at Vibes Restaurant and Ultra Lounge, the Jefferson County Coroner s Office said. A man also was shot and injured in the incident at the club, 1346 River Road, Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley has said. Officers responded to the scene just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.  Nash was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Smiley said. Vibes Restaurant and Ultra Lounge was hosting a 2021 Derby Weekend Kickoff party Friday night, according to its Facebook page, with DJ Drama a featured guest.  Authorities say the club was well attended at the time of the incident however there were no other injuries, Smiley said. The Homicide Unit is handling the investigation and believe both shootings took place inside the venue.”

1 shot to death at Irondale apartment complex Updated Apr 30, 2021; A 21-year-old Birmingham man was shot to death early Wednesday morning at an Irondale apartment complex. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Dewarren Lovell Gibson was discovered in the breezeway of Hunter Ridge Apartments, 4400 Hunter Ridge Way, in Irondale. He was wounded during what police believe was an assault. The incident was reported Wednesday at 3:54 a.m. Gibson died yesterday morning at UAB Hospital.
