New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said US pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and Moderna have declined to sell coronavirus vaccines to the city government as they want to directly deal with the Centre. We have had talks with Pfizer and Moderna. They said they won t give us vaccine and will directly talk to the Centre, Kejriwal told reporters. I appeal to the central government with folded hands to talk to these firms, import vaccines and distribute them among states, he added.
India becomes third country to top 300,000 Covid-19 deaths as vaccine shortage bites

India reported 4,454 new Covid-19 fatalities on Monday, bringing the country s death toll to 303,720, according to the Indian Ministry of Health.
India is the third country to report more than 300,000 deaths from the virus, after Brazil and the United States, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The health ministry also reported 222,315 new coronavirus infections, marking the fourth consecutive day that the number of cases reported in the country have declined.
However, Monday s death count is the highest daily death toll reported since May 19.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that Pfizer and Moderna have declined to sell Covid vaccines directly to the city government, news agency ANI reported. Kejriwal said that both the American pharmaceutical firms informed that they deal only with the Government of India.
Delhi is among other states that have floated global tender to procure vaccines amid an acute shortage of doses in the country. The AAP government has set a target to inoculate two crore people of Delhi in the next three months, but several vaccination centres in the city have been closed due to the shortage of vaccines.

Lockdown was extended on Sunday in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Puducherry, with many states already imposing COVID-induced restrictions till May-end to rein in the spread of infection and the mounting deaths which crossed the three lakh mark.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the ongoing lockdown in the national capital will continue for another week and said the process of unlock will start from May 31 in a phased manner if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to decline.
