The health department released the news Thursday, after the state s COVID-19 dashboard had been updated. The dashboard had reported two additional deaths, increasing the death toll since the pandemic started in March 2020 to 217.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. A young child has died in Tippecanoe County from coronavirus, the Tippecanoe County Health Department said Thursday.
The health department said the child was under five years old and died while being hospitalized for COVID-19.
“This tragic occurrence reminds us that COVID-19 can cause serious, even fatal, illness in children. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and save lives, it is important that everyone continue established preventive measures,” the department said in a statement.
TCHD says it strongly recommends everyone over the age of two to wear a mask in businesses, indoor public spaces, outdoor spaces where social distancing of at least six feet between people from different households cannot be maintained, and while using public transportation.

How many vaccinated in Tippecanoe County?
As noted, 44,918 people in Tippecanoe County have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state s vaccination dashboard; 77,692 have had at least one shot.
