Hyderabad: The loss-making Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), which was about to achieve its financial target during the just concluded fiscal year, has again started facing financial woes owing to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
Due to the spike in the cases, the number of passengers travelling in TSRTC buses in the Greater Hyderabad Zone have decreased significantly. It is likely to decrease further in the days to come. The occupancy in RTC buses has decreased by about 50 percent during the last few weeks. Closure of educational institutions too has impacted its income adversely as the TSRTC is losing about Rs 1 crore daily.

Executive directors and regional managers have been asked to visit depots to monitor the jab drive.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will embark on a massive vaccination drive, and cover workers aged 45 years and above. An estimated 28,000 staff members will get vaccinated in the next four days, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said at a virtual meeting on Friday.

HYDERABAD: Rise in Covid-19 cases throughout Telangana state has manifested by way of decreasing numbers of people commuting using state road transport corporation buses, whether on its district or city bus services.
This mainly follows TSRTC staff, including conductors and drivers, adhering to the state-controlled corporation’s dictum of “No Mask No Journey”. On its part, RTC has also started a special campaign to inoculate its staff above 45 years against the virus.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s fortunes have plummeted from FY 2014-15 to FY 2020-21, owing to various factors such as the continuous rise in fuel prices, and since last year, due to the COVID–19 pandemic.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is all set to convert conventional diesel buses into electric buses. They are holding talks with private parties to retrofit diesel engines with electric ones and for other parts and necessary changes. At present, the Greater Hyderabad Zone (GHZ) of TSRTC is operating 40 fully electric buses on the airport route.
