BENGALURU: There has been an “exponential” increase in cases of Covid-Associated Mucormycosis (CAM), or black fungus, in Bengaluru over the last 10 days, but the all-importantanti- fungal drug Liposomal Amphotericin or Amphotericin- B has surprisingly gone out of stock! In its absence, some hospitals are either using other alternative drugs, which may not be as effective as Amphotericin-B or are using plain Amphotericin, which is nephro-toxic and has the potential to damage kidneys.
Some private hospitals, which have operated upon CAM patients are frantically looking for Amphotericin-B and even calling government and government hospitals for some vials. “Amphotericin- B was easily available in the market till recently. It is not available now,” said Medical Director of Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, MD Marker.

He was given a detailed picture on the Covid outbreak in various states and districts during a meeting which was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya other ministers and top officials.
 He was informed about the 12 states which have more than 1 lakh active cases. PM was also apprised about the districts with high disease burden, a statement released by the Prime Minister s Office said.

Pharma companies expressed concern about delayed shipments Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy today requested the Centre to facilitate uninterrupted supplies of raw materials for pharma companies making critical drugs.
After interacting with API producers in AP and Gujarat, and discussing issues relating to supplies and delays in clearances, he tweeted that some of the decisions to streamline imports and clearances do not seem to have percolated to the operational levels causing problems for manufacture of drugs. He decided to take up the concerns expressed by pharma companies with the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of External Affairs to streamline the process of various clearances

In view of the pandemic situation in the country and a boosted demand for crucial drugs to treat coronavirus, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday informed that the production of Remdesivir is being ramped up and very soon 3 lakh vials per day capacity will be achieved. Remdesivir production capacity is now ramped up to more than 90 lakhs vials per month, earlier it was 40 lakhs vials per month. Very soon, 3 lakh vials per day will be produced, tweeted Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
