Choi: Top three is Lobos NCAA regional goal

.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... Sam Choi, a South Korean who became a junior golfing star in California, has lived up to his promise and then some, says University of New Mexico men’s golf coach Glen Millican. (Adolphe Pierre-Louis/Journal Photo) Sam Choi definitely believes in the University of New Mexico men’s golf team for which he plays. The Lobos have great momentum entering the NCAA Southwest Regional, scheduled for the UNM Championship Golf Course Monday through Wednesday, so Choi, New Mexico’s No. 1, is setting some lofty goals, higher than the team’s No. 5 seed. “Me and my buddies,” he said, referring to his teammates, “we’ve set our goals. It’s a top -three finish. If we just play decent golf here, we’ll probably finish top three.”

Cancer Trends: How Has the COVID-19 Pandemic Affected Cancer Screening?

Medically Reviewed At the beginning of the pandemic, skipping routine screenings seemed like a good idea. Now experts say there may be dire consequences.  Yuliya Baranych/iStock Last March, when the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic, many medical facilities shuttered themselves to everyone but those suffering from the virus or in need of necessary medical care. The thinking: Spare medical facilities for the unfolding emergency and avoid exposing people seeking nonemergency medical care to the virus. Preventive care could wait. But as the pandemic raged on, concern grew among cancer experts around one issue in particular: screening. Cancer screening provides one of the best ways to find cancer early, at a time when it s most treatable. With few exceptions, multiple cancer screening tests are recommended for early cancer detection across any adult’s lifetime.

Israeli UNM student victim of possible hate crime

The report also said the attack may have been “motivated by hate.” The student was taken to a local hospital, where he was admitted overnight for various injuries and possible internal head bleeding. The incident was also reported to the regional office of the Anti-Defamation League based in Denver. The ADL said the student was wearing a T-shirt with a stylized Nike logo and slogan, saying “Just Jew it.” The ADL said the student informed UNM police of the incident, and they referred him to on-campus resources and support services. “We are outraged and appalled by the violent attack against a University of New Mexico student and the alleged antisemitism that prompted the attack,” said Scott Levin, ADL Mountain States Region director.

New Mexico AG moves to dismiss parasitic lawsuit from Aubrey Dunn

qui tam action in Arizona.  University of New Mexico law professor Joshua Kastenberg, who served as a lawyer and judge in the U.S. Air Force over 20 years, recalled a $117 million judgment against a federal defense contractor thanks to a fairly new government employee who caught something none of the other experts caught, and collected approximately $250,000. It s very narrow and it s very rare, Kastenberg said, because if two neighbors don t like each other you can imagine what they ll do in the courts. Qui tam has historical roots in English common law, which allowed individuals to prosecute other individuals on behalf of the government, but Kastenberg said U.S. law largely abolished that ability.
