KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 With 348 Covid-19 clusters still active and reporting new cases, Malaysia continues to grapple with four-digit new infections every day.
It is obvious from the Ministry of Health’s daily Coronavirus Disease 2019 Situation Report that the two main types of clusters triggering new cases are those linked to the workplace and community.
The hotbeds for the transmission of the deadly coronavirus are, in fact, workplaces such as factories, construction sites, construction companies, business centres, education centres and public administrative centres.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative discharge number now stood at 341,489 while there are still 14,805 active cases throughout the country.
On Sarawak recording its highest daily numbers so far with 555 cases, he said the increase is due to clusters and community infections including longhouses. The factors that contributed to the increase in cases are social and mass gathering activities such as funerals, weddings and others, he said in a statement.
Sarawak was followed by Selangor (403 cases) and Penang (176).
Of the country s new cases, 1,834 were locally transmitted while 20 were imported.
Of Friday s new cases, 58 were detected from prison and Immigration detention depot clusters namely the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (25 cases), Tembok Sri Aman cluster (three), Tembok Muhasabah cluster (13), Teluk Mas cluster (11), Pengkalan Chepa cluster (four), DTI Sepang cluster (one), and the Tembok Tapah cluster (one).
