Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is looking at delegating powers to private medical practitioners to handle COVID-19 patients.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said so far, private medical practitioners were not authorised to deal with COVID-19 cases and only can refer them to a government facility.
“With these delegated powers given, private facility doctors will be allowed to order high risk patients to undergo home surveillance order (HSO) and wear bracelets for monitoring.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 6): Migrant workers might not be the source of cheap labour in Malaysia soon.
The Government’s proposed amendment of the Workers Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 is bound to raise costs for businesses which employ a large number of foreign workers.
Yet the amendment is deemed necessary as the country continues to grapple with rising Covid-19 cases, now worsened by growing workplace clusters which are believed to be spurred by cramped accommodation of foreign workers.
Furthermore, the continued bad press on the poor living conditions of migrant workers in Malaysia will not help the country’s reputation in the international arena.
PUTRAJAYA: A four-month-old infant in Sabah is the youngest casualty out of 826 people in the country who succumbed to Covid-19.
The child was said to be suffering from a heart disease, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported in his daily Covid-19 press statement.
The infant boy, a Malaysian, passed away at Hospital Tawau and is one of the 17 Covid-19 deaths announced yesterday.
“Today’s deaths included four cases in Selangor, three each in Sabah and Sarawak, two each in Johor and Pahang, one each in Kelantan, Melaka and Negri Sembilan.
“Fifteen of these cases involved Malaysians while two were foreigners. The Health Ministry would like to convey its condolences to the family members, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.
