KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be by his wife s side on Thursday (Feb 18) when the High Court delivers its decision in the corruption case of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor involving a solar hybrid project in Sarawak.
His lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah that the Pekan MP wished to attend Rosmah s court case before attending his own 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial.
“I am making an application because my client wants to support his wife, ” Shafee said in court Wednesday (Feb 17).
When met outside the courtroom, Shafee said three Deputy Public Prosecutors from the 1MDB trial had also asked for the judge to allow them to also attend Rosmah s proceedings.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 17): Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be attending his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor s trial tomorrow as a show of emotional support when the High Court delivers its decision on whether she should be called to enter her defence over the three counts of graft she has been charged with.
This is as the judge presiding over his trial in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore case has allowed the hearing tomorrow to start a bit later, pending the High Court s decision in Rosmah s case.
During 1MDB-Tanore s trial today, deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Ahmad Akram Gharib told High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah that some members of the 1MDB-Tanore prosecution team are also part of the team prosecuting Rosmah, hence they are also required to be present in her case.
KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the absence of evidence, a former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief executive officer told the High Court he still believed Umno benefited from the sovereign wealth fund.
Prosecution witness Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, testified that it was a matter of whether “to follow along or not” when it came to servicing Umno in 1MDB.
This prompted lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who is representing Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to remark that Hazem was the first witness to tell the court that 1MDB was set up for Umno.
He pointed out the previous 1MDB CEO who testified, Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, had never said 1MDB was for Umno.
High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is presiding over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore trial, has dismissed the application made by the accused Datuk Seri Najib Razak to postpone the trial this week.
