KUALA LUMPUR: The former 1Malaysia Development Berhad chief executive officer (CEO) said he still believed that UMNO had benefited from the sovereign wealth fund despite the absence of evidence of monies being sent to the political party. Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, told the High Court here today that although the idea of 1MDB existed purely to service UMNO might sound insane, he believed it as this was conveyed by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low to him in the presence of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s ( pix) former principal private secretary, the late Datuk Azlin Alias.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conflict of interest over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) was never raised in Cabinet meetings despite him chairing discussions involving the sovereign wealth fund, the High Court here has been told. Former deputy chief secretary to the Cabinet Tan Sri Mazidah Abdul Majid, who was testifying in the 1MDB trial yesterday, agreed to the suggestion by lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah that nobody had voiced out any concern about Najib’s presence in the meetings discussing 1MDB matters. Shafee had referred the witness to the Code of Ethics for Members of Administration and Members of Parliament where it stated that Cabinet members who have personal interest in matters which are of conflict with government interest, especially if it involves a family member, must leave the meeting and the absence shall be recorded.

Prosecution in forfeiture hearing denies RM114m belongs to Umno, reveals unaudited account for political donations

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 10): The prosecution in the forfeiture hearing of the police raid at the Pavilion condominium three years ago told the High Court that the RM114.16 million cash sought by Umno and its former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak could not have been the party s money as some of its leaders have denied knowledge of it. There were statements taken by the police from several Umno leaders, like former secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, and treasurers Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, denying any knowledge that Najib was supposed to keep the money for the 14th general elections.
