KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has rejected Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s (pix) bid to postpone the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial pending a legal bid in a United States’ court. Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had earlier told the court that his client was seeking to get the names of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) officials that allegedly received bribes from Goldman Sachs Group Inc and its former director Tim Leissner. “In the proceedings in the US court, where Leissner and Goldman Sachs pleaded guilty, Leissner had actually said and admit to the fact that he has paid in terms of bribes to several officials in 1MDB.

Shafee crosses swords with witness over claim that 1MDB benefited Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: A former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) CEO told the High Court here that he still believes Umno benefited from the sovereign wealth fund despite the absence of evidence. Prosecution witness Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, testified that it was a matter of whether to follow along or not when it came to servicing Umno in 1MDB. This prompted lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, representing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to remark that Hazem was the first witness to tell the court that 1MDB was set up for Umno. Shafee said the previous 1MDB CEO who testified - Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi - had never said 1MDB was for Umno.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): Several 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) meetings involving senior officials were held at purported master conspirator Low Taek Jho s apartment as he could not be seen at the government fund’s office giving advice, the High Court heard today.  Former 1MDB chief executive officer Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman, who is the prosecution s 10th witness, testified today that he and Low, better known as Jho Low, usually communicated via BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). According to Hazem, meetings were usually held at Low s apartment at 3, Jalan Kia Peng instead of 1MDB s office which is within a radius of less than 10km.
