Officers complete Crisis Intervention training

Wooten-Eichel-Whipker-Bundick-Duke/Courtesy-BCSO COLUMBUS, Ind. – Five representatives from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the Columbus Police Department (CPD) completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training last week. They were CPD Officer Cody Wooten, CPD Sgt. Alyson Eichel, BCSO Sgt. Andrew Whipker, CPD Chaplain John Bundick, and BCSO Detective Dane Duke. CIT certified law enforcement officers receive specialized training to respond to calls involving persons experiencing a mental health crisis. The CIT program is a community partnership of law enforcement, mental health, and addiction professionals and is an innovative first-responder model of police-based crisis intervention training to help persons with mental disorders and/or addictions access medical treatment rather than place them in the criminal justice system due to illness-related behaviors. It also promotes officer safety and the safety of the individual in crisis.

Local man arrested for domestic battery, resisting law enforcement

Courtesy of BCSO NEWBURN, Ind. – A possible domestic disturbance at the Elkland Hills Mobile Home Park, near Newbern, was reported to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) on Wednesday at around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, deputies say a female with visible injuries, told them she had been physically assaulted for the past 24 hours and her kids were present at the time. The victim alleges that while outside of the residence, Phillip Ramsey, 41, of Columbus, pushed her head onto the concrete causing her to lose consciousness. She was checked at the scene by Columbus Regional Health EMS. The suspect reportedly fled the scene, running from the mobile home park into a wooded area. A short time later, BCSO witnessed Ramsey walking on the north side of the mobile home park. He again tried to flee from deputies but he was found hiding in a shed and was then arrested without further incident.
