Most major port trust handled higher volumes at the beginning of the fiscal year when compared to last year
Cargo handled at India’s dozen State-owned major ports soared 31.23% during April-May period to 121.976 million tonnes (mt) from 92.951 mt a year ago.
All the major port trusts with the exception of New Mangalore Port Trust handled much higher volumes during the first two months of the fiscal year that began in April from a year earlier.
Deendayal Port Trust, India’s top State-owned port by cargo volumes, handled 22.799 mt during April-May from 17.189 mt a year ago, posting a growth of 32.64%, according to the ministry of ports, shipping and waterways.

Mangaluru, May 31: On Sunday May 30, Boeing C-17 strategic transport aircraft, said to be the biggest in its class, landed at the airpor there. The C-17 globemaster aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force made news by landing at the airport here.
This is a military transport aircraft having four engines. It got down at the airport here in order to carry the emptied oxygen cylinders that had come to the New Mangalore Port Trust from Kuwait, back to that country.
The oxygen tanks which were received from Kuwait earlier too had been sent back by the Air Force aircraft. C-17 aircrafts are meant to handle huge consignments like tanks and other vehicles form one place to the other. Navy vessel carrying liquid oxygen, cylinders arrives from Kuwait
The cargo was loaded on the naval vessel at Shuwaikh Port and it sailed out from Kuwait on May 15.

MANGALURU: The Indian Navy vessel ‘INS Shardul’, carrying approximately 190 metric tons of liquid medical oxygen and 1,200 oxygen cylinders from Kuwait, arrived at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on Tuesday. The cargo was loaded on the naval vessel at Shuwaikh Port and it sailed out from Kuwait on May 15. Till date, five naval vessels have arrived at NMPT carrying medical oxygen and equipment under the Samudra Setu-II operation launched by the Indian Navy. A release from NMPT said the vessel carried seven Liquid Medical Oxygen-filled ISO containers of net weight 20 MT each, 60 pallets of oxygen cylinders of one tonne each and two semi-trailers filled with 25 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen each.
Sharing an update on the Op Samudra Setu II, the Indian Navy has said, INS Shardul had 8 ISO tanks and 2 semi-trailers which were carrying around 201 MT of LMO and around 1200 oxygen cylinders.
