Lawyer and Governance expert, Dr Eric Oduro Osae has argued that government did the right thing by honouring late President Jerry John Rawlings with a befitting final funeral rite.
According to him, the constitution demands such treat to any Head of State – hence, government was precise to have buried him despite some family claims that they should have ‘fully’ taken charge.

NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Dr Oduro Osae noted that nothing stops Rawlings’ family and the party he founded, (NDC) from organizing their funeral as a sign of respect for the former military leader.

Some Senior citizens in the Bono Regional capital say ex-President Jerry John Rawlings will be remembered by the people of the region for the rural electrification project he implemented in the then Brong-Ahafo Region.
“In fact his government championed the cause of rural electrification in our region. Now electricity has been extended to virtually every community in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions. This is a great achievement of the former President and we need to honour him.” Mr George Abeiku, a retired educationist stated.
In a random interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Abeiku described former President Rawlings as a selfless leader, always determined to facilitate equitable distribution of the national cake based on the needs of people.
Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Kumawumanhene, the representative of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Tuesday joined mourners to pay the last respect to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The mortal remains of former President Rawlings is laying in state at the AICC Foyer for public viewing, as part of a four-day elaborate state funeral.
The late former President was married to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a Princess from the Asanteman Royal Family.
In line with Asanteman tradition the delegation, on behalf of the Asantehene and the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, presented customary drinks and gifts and an amount of GH¢5,000.00 as funeral donation to the bereaved family.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his wife, on Tuesday paid their last respect to former President Jerry John Rawlings, whose body is lying in state at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The President and Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo exchanged pleasantries with the widow of the former president Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, children and the family.
It was followed by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and wife Samira Bawumia. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the second president of the fourth Republic, also paid his last respect to his predecessor.
Mr John Dramani Mahama, also a former President and Flag bearer of the NDC for the 2020 Election and his wife, Mrs Lordina Mahama, took turns to pay their last respect to the Founder of the NDC.
Rawlings funeral: Police caution commuters of traffic around Black Star Square, others LISTEN

The Police Service has warned commuters of vehicular traffic on some selected roads this morning, Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
This, the service attributes to the funeral and pre-burial ceremony of late former President Jerry John Rawlings which is expected to take place today.
According to a statement by the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, its personnel will be stationed on some selected roads leading to the Black Star Square to make it easier for invited dignitaries and officials to move unimpeded.
Roads to be affected include the stretch from the former President s residence at Ridge and from 37 Military Hospital, Airport Hills and Burma Camp and Ridge Roundabout.
