Major coronavirus metrics continue to head lower in the US, and now also globally. New cases in the US during the week ending May 8th were down 18.6% from new cases during the week ending May 1st, and are now down 83.3% from the January peak; this week also saw fewer new cases than any week since September. This week s US deaths attributed to Covid were 6.8% lower than the prior week s, and down 80.5% from the January high; US Covid deaths are now at the lowest rate since since the second week of July.
TUPELO â¢Â If Republican nominee Todd Jordan is elected Tupeloâs next mayor, then Lee County voters will face a special election to fill the District 3 seat on the Board of Supervisors.
Camille Roberts Dulaney, the Lee County circuit clerk, told the Daily Journal that if Jordan vacates his county office, then a special election will be held this upcoming November. The special election would be for the remainder of Jordan s term, which is up at the end of 2023.
But state law also allows supervisors to temporarily appoint someone to fill a vacancy until a special election.
So the potential vacancy still leaves an important question: If Jordan wins the mayor s race on June 8, who would, at least temporarily, fill his open seat on the county board until a special election could be conducted in November?

(JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation has a birds-eye view update on two major construction projects plus new details on all state road projects.
U.S. Highway 49 reconstruction in Rankin County
Crews are making headway on the reconstruction of approximately 7.5 miles of U.S. Highway 49 from Richland to Florence.
Traffic has been switched to the newly constructed lanes. Several crossovers remain closed throughout the project, but the Gunter Road intersection is open with new traffic signals.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation s (MDOT) acting executive director reminds Mississippians to slow down and pay attention to crews who are working alongside roadways.
On Thursday, Jeffrey Altman shared an image of District 2 maintenance technician Will Yates.
A car struck Yates on March 28 while he was clearing storm damage. The injury cost him his left leg.
Altman says Yates is doing well and looks forward to getting back out with his guys.”
