Police, fire crews conduct investigation at Lake Grubb in Lancaster County

In Lancaster County, West Hempfield Township fire crews worked with police Sunday afternoon at Lake Grubb, but authorities are not disclosing the nature of their investigation.Witnesses told our News 8 crew at the scene that K-9 units were brought in, and the lake was closed to the public.Dispatchers said clothes were recovered as part of the investigation.UPDATE - Police provided the following news release about the investigation: On Sunday May 16, West Hempfield Township Officers were alerted to suspicious circumstances in Lake Grubb Park. A set of women’s clothing, including under garments and shoes were found in an area near the lake. West Hempfield Township Fire Department, Fire Police, PA Wilderness Search & Rescue and Pennsylvania Canine Search & Rescue assisted the Police Department in searching the area to ensure the items were not related to some type of crime. Woman dies following West Bloomfield house explosion Advertisement Three children and three adults were evacuated from a home on Stonecrest Road in West Bloomfield Township following an explosion April 30. The three adults were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment, with one of them, a 41-year-old woman, later being pronounced dead. According to a press release, at 11:18 p.m. April 30, West Bloomfield rescue personnel received information that there had been an explosion at the residence, and the township s police and fire departments responded to the scene. They encountered a severely injured woman in the kitchen of the residence. There is an ongoing investigation by the West Bloomfield police and fire departments.

Metro Detroit voters to decide school funding requests May 4

Voters in several Metro Detroit communities will decide Tuesday on more than a half-billion dollars in school bond requests, millage renewals and other local issues. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. In Oakland County, the Oak Park school district is asking voters to approve a $54.4 million, 30-year bond issue for construction and remodeling of school facilities, technology equipment and infrastructure, furniture and site improvements. Four district elementary schools  Einstein, Key, Lessenger and Pepper  would receive mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades, for instance. If the measure passes, the district would not result in an increase of the 5.98 mills the district collects. The owner of a home with a market value of $100,000 would pay about $300 a year. About 4,000 students attend Oak Park schools.
