FDNY: 2 injured in Stapleton fire, 12 units respond Updated Dec 20, 2020; Two civilians were transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, an FDNY spokesperson said Sunday. The incident was first reported at about 9 p.m. inside 60 Beach Street. A dozen FDNY units responded, placing the flames under control within about 15 minutes, the spokesman said. According to emergency radio transmissions, a female suffered minor burns to the leg. The spokesperson could not provide an update Sunday morning on the condition of either patient. There was no visible damage Sunday to the front building, which appears to includes a ‘multicultural learning center’ on the first floor.

As the nation continues its way through the December spike in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, Staten Island remains one of the hardest-hit areas in New York, according to the latest available data on Saturday. According to the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, an additional five Staten Islanders are believed to have died as a result of the virus. That brings the Island’s total number of deaths up to 1,216 1,025 confirmed and 191 probable from the 1,211 reported Friday 1,021 confirmed and 190 probable.
