RCB food branch checks 2,949 outlets

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) food branch checked 2,949 food outlets and issued 2210 notices for unhygienic and poor cleanliness conditions during last nine months of the current financial year and imposed fines amounting around Rs2.38 million.
An official of RCB food branch said they collected 938 food samples which were sent to lab for quality testing.
The cases of substandard food items were also sent to the court of the cantonment magistrate which imposed fines on the rules violators, he told APP.
Food Inspectors on the directive of the Cantonment Executive Officer conducted surprise visits of different markets including Saddar, Peshawar Road Tench Bhatta, Bakra Mandi and other areas and inspected cleanliness condition with quality of food items at food outlets.
RCB inaugurates ‘Quran Garden’

Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Tuesday inaugurated ‘Quran Garden’ here at Raja Akram Road, established under ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign.
President Cantonment Board Brigadier Ijaz Qamar Kiani and Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO) Muhammad Umar Farooq Ali Malik were chief guests on the occasion. Saplings of the plants which are mentioned in the Holy Quran were particularly planted in the garden.
Brigadier Ijaz Qamar Kiani addressing the participants said that ‘Plant for Pakistan’ is not only a campaign rather it has become a passion that was increasing day by day in all the seasons. He appreciated the arrangements made by both the Boards, Rawalpindi and Chaklala, to provide free saplings to citizens. Scores of stray dogs were poisoned to death on the first day of a dog-culling drive launched by the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Friday.
Muhammad Najeeb, the supervisor of the campaign, said the drive would last for a week.
He said that on the first day of the campaign, scores of stray dogs were fed poisoned meat in Shaheenpura, Kamhar Mandi, Marble Market, Akbar market, Kamran Market, Nogza Market, Murair Market, Gawalmandi, Bank Road and Railway Station areas.
Kite flying continues despite ban

Rawalpindi : The ban on kite flying and use of metallic strings was openly being violated in several city and cantonment areas. The residents of the city have expressed concern over kite-flying and use of metallic strings for the purpose.
Kite-flying continued in various areas of the city, including Peoples Colony, Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Syedan, Kiani Road, Dhoke Chaudharian, Adyala Road, Bakra Mandi, Masrial, Committee Chowk, Arya Mohala, Ratta Amral, Sadiqabad, New Katarian, Bani, Pirwadhai and several other areas.
Kite flying is observed despite ban specially, on Fridays and Sundays and the city administration had failed to implement a complete ban on the activity so far.
