City were charged and referred to an independent commission in february last year, following a four year investigation that said the club broke rules between 2009 and 2018. An exact date for a verdict is unknown, with reports only suggesting a decision early in 2025. City strongly deny all the charges. 0ur sports editor dan roan tells us what happens next. It's expected to last, this commission hearing, about ten weeks, and then beyond of that, there will be, of course, a period of deliberation. And given the complexity and the scale of this case, based on how many charges there are, and i should say that while there were 115 originally, it has been reported that that may have expanded to around 130, not because there are additional allegations of wrongdoing, but more because they're effectively multiples of original charges over various seasons. The premier league are simply not clarifying the case, but regardless, it's a sprawling case over 1a seasons, and so it would be surprising if there wasn't a significant period of time dedicated to considering the verdict by that three—person panel. So estimates have ranged from any time in the new year all the way through to spring. And of course, it's not beyond the realms, perhaps, that some kind of compromise, some kind of arrangement or deal may be reached because the legal bill is spiralling —tens of millions of pounds. It's estimated to have cost both sides already. And it may well be that at some stage some kind of arrangement is reached. But i think as it stands, if this runs its course, it's very hard to say. It could go to an appeal, at least one round of appeals and so it could spread well into next year. And given that it's been going on for several years, that wouldn't be a surprise. Well, sticking with football, the champions league is back this week with 36 clubs now competing in the revamped group stage, four more than previously. Here's sam harris with all the details. The 2024—25 season brings a new format for the men's uefa champions league, and it's a big change from what fans have been used to. In short, it means more teams, more games and a single league table replacing the initial group stage structure, which had been in place since 1991. This season's competition will be expanded from 32 to 36 teams, and each club will play eight games before the knockouts. Every team will be drawn against eight different opponents, two from each of the four seeding pots, and they'll play four matches at home and four away. Teams that finish the league phase in positions one to eight qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams ranked nine to 2a must face each other in a knockout playoff round to join the top eight in the round of 16, and teams in positions 25 to 36 are eliminated from all competitions in the knockout phase. Well, it's business as usual. All ties are contested home and away, culminating with a single leg final. Uefa hope that the new format, which also forms the basis of the europa league and europa conference league, will ensure fast changing and unpredictable standings. More matches between equally ranked teams, with fans able to enjoy more top clashes right from the first matchday. So there you have it, a big change for europe's elite club football competition. The former racing driver is now trying to break the record for the fastest double amputee to complete the annual ironman world championship. Taking the plunge headfirst into a real test of how the months of gruelling training have gone. Billy monger was on the dorset coast yesterday, completing a 1. 2 mile sea swim, 56—mile cycle followed by a 13. 1 mile run. Billy will have to cover double that distance in the hawaiian heat. It's been multiple double amputees that have attempted this challenge, and they haven't been able to finish because of the scale of the challenge. So there's no there's definitely not one part of me that's underestimating how hard it is going to bejust to finish in under 17 hours, let alone try and break that record of 16 hours 26. It's probably going to be the toughest thing i've ever done. He's had to learn to swim in open water, how to adapt to cycling with prosthetics, and how to run long distances with blades. The ironman in hawaii is widely regarded as the toughest one day endurance event in the world. I've been training since october of last year, doing about between 10—20 hours of training a week. So yeah, you could say i'm feeling ready for it. But equally, nothing can prepare me for what i'm going to face out in hawaii. As hard as this challenge is, this is another level again. The amount of equipment, i mean, coming into transition. We've got suitcases of gear when everyone else is just sort of rocking up with a single bag. A lot of, uh, organisation and a lot of self—discipline. Billy had both legs amputated after a near—fatal crash in 2017. Since then, he's worked as a broadcaster and raised £3 million for comic relief by walking, cycling and kayaking a 140 miles in 2021. His ironman will also raise funds for the charity. I know where that money is going and how important it is. Billy is hoping to cross the finish line in hawaii next month in a record breaking time, and with the heat and humidity, that celebratory hug with his mum mightjust be a bit more sweaty next time. For example, here in capel curig, and just to the south in ceredigion, we had the day's highest temperature — up to 22 degrees in the warmest spots. Now, you'll notice a bit more in the way of clouds towards the north west, and indeed, over the next few hours could see some splashes of rain work into shetland for a time. Quite breezy conditions here. Watch out for a few mist and fog patches over the next few hours forming across parts of north west england, wales, the west midlands and southwest england, too. Visibility could drop down to about 100m in the densest of those fog patches. So, it's quite a chilly start to the day, with temperatures down at around five degrees in the coldest spots. The high pressure, though, is here to stay for the next few days. Now, starting off on tuesday, a bit of rain clearing away from shetland, might see a few patches of cloud across east anglia first thing, but it should brighten up with some sunshine here, and any mist and fog patches clearing to reveal another beautiful day. Plenty of autumn sunshine and those temperatures very similar to those on monday — high teens to low 20s. One of the warmest spots could end up being northern scotland, with highs here of 22, western counties of northern ireland — 21. Middle parts of the week, perhaps a bit more in the way of cloud just to start off across parts of england, east wales that will thin and break with time, and there will be more of a breeze blowing for east anglia in the southeast of england. Quite breezy for the far north of scotland, too, but otherwise, it's another beautiful day. After a chilly morning, there'll be loads more sunshine and temperatures 23 there for northern scotland, a 2k in southeast england. These temperatures are quite a bit above average for this time of the year. It's a case of spot the difference really, for thursday. Again a few mist and fog patches, a few patches of cloud initially, but loads and loads of sunshine to come as we go on through the afternoon. Top temperatures — 2a again around london, a 22 for western scotland, and we're still around 20 degrees or so for western counties of northern ireland. It will feel warm in that september sunshine. We do, however, start to see some signs of a change in the pattern through friday and into the weekend as low pressure starts to threaten from the south.
