Beamer rounds out staff, introduces coordinators to media Share this story Gamecock Athletics / @GamecocksOnline New South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer has finally completed his staff, naming former Western Kentucky defensive coordinator Clayton White to the same post and hiring Marshall’s Luke Day as strength and conditioning coach, with a rumored addition at cornerbacks coach as well. White, who’s been considered an up-and-coming candidate, had a four-year tenure with the Hilltoppers and was a Frank Broyles finalist — the award given to the best assistant in college football — in 2017, 2019, and 2020. This past season, WKU’s defense finished 28th in total defense, including eighth nationally in passing defense, allowing just 177.3 yards per game. The Hilltoppers were also third with 68 passes defended, and scored three defensive touchdowns. Additionally, White is from North Carolina, and so presumably has a lot of ties to the area.
