David Baird of Burradoo has a rather inventive blackboard memory (C8): "To break the torpor of a hot, afternoon lesson, I feigned irritation at a (non-existent) persistent blowfly. Then, turning, I hurled my piece of chalk at the back wall, walked along the centre aisle, picked up the dead fly I had placed there in the lunch hour saying, 'Got him!' Students' response: 'Wow!'"
"Could one of the Column 8 meteorological buffs please explain the difference between a storm and a 'storm event'?" asks Jenny Mooney of Karuah. "For that matter, a flood and 'a flood event', a heatwave and 'a heatwave event' or even just weather and 'a weather event'. Am I missing something obvious?"
